Drug Education School Challenge

Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force and Ohio PTA

WHAT IS THE DRUG EDUCATION SCHOOL CHALLENGE (D.E.S.C.)

Most in Ohio are familiar with the increased use of heroin and the devastating effects abusive drug use has on our children and families.  To fight back, the Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force Education Subcommittee teamed up with Ohio PTA to launch a statewide program called D.E.S.C. (Drug Education School Challenge).  D.E.S.C. is designed to publically recognize and monetarily award thsoe schools that are implementing the most outstanding parent/student drug and mental health education programs.

CORPORATE SPONSORS & INDIVIDUAL DONORS

As leaders, you no doubt are familiar with the increases in heroin use and the devastating effects abusive alcohol and other drug use has on our children and families.  According to experts, the best way to stem this epidemic is through early and consistent education, both at home and at schools.  Your financial support will encourage schools across the state to "up their game" and provide more education for students and families.  As a supporter, we will honor you and the D.E.S.C. Leader Schools at the Annual Ohio PTA Convention in Spring 2018.  Please visit the Donate button to the right and give generously.

SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS & PTA LEADERS

Ohio PTA, in conjunction with the Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force, Education Committee, are asking for your assistance in the ongoing battle to halt the opioid epidemic.  It has become evident that early education and prevention is the only long term solution.  You can be a catalyst in helping to save children's lives by starting a convesation within your schools and districts that evaluates current and future drug education programming.  Please take a minute to visit this link, read, print and organize the files as listed below. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxMZZ-Zij52YQldGLUViM042WDQ

If you have questions, email Ohio PTA at hws@ohiopta.org at any time.  Your feedback will guide the scoring framework that will ultimately provide recognition to schools participating in the D.E.S.C. for the 2017-18 school year.  Thank you in advance for supporting this collaborative pilot initiative, especially at this busy time of year.  Together we can make a difference in the futures of Ohio's children and families.

Sincerely,

Susan Hans, President, Ohio PTA
