Experts in law enforcement estimate that over 60% of the revenue used to feed addiction comes from crime. Money also comes from family members, unaware that their life savings are disappearing.
In 2009, one out of three drivers killed in motor vehicle crashes who were tested for drugs, had tested positive for at least one prescription medication or illicit drug, according to ONDCP.
